CounterPath and NEC Announce Mobile Unified Communications Solution
Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 28, 2014CounterPath Corporation (TSX-V: CCV; OTCBB: CPAH), an award-winning provider of desktop and mobile VoIP software solutions, and NEC Unified Solutions (NEC) today announced the introduction of NEC’s Smart Mobile Client, a sophisticated solution for Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) that extends the functionality and capabilities of NEC communication servers to market-leading smartphones.
“Smart Mobile Client R2.2 provides users of popular enterprise smart phones, such as the Blackberry 9700, Nokia E72/N97 and Apple iPhone with the experience of having full access to their company’s communications network while on the move”, says Bert van Koelen, Business Manager at NEC Unified. “The NEC solution provides users with mobile unified communications functionality, by extending enterprise telephony, voicemail and corporate directory services – together with presence, instant messaging and conferencing capabilities – to smart phones over cellular networks as well as through Wi-Fi.”
“We are excited about our partnership with NEC Unified Solutions and the value it brings to their customers,” said Donovan Jones, CEO of CounterPath Corporation. “With Smart Mobile Client, customers on NEC call servers can now seamlessly shift phone calls off the cellular network onto their enterprise Wi-Fi network, saving an estimated 30 percent on their mobile cellular spending. They can also select PBX routing schemes for considerable savings on (international) roaming costs, too.”
Multiple customers have successfully implemented Smart Mobile Client and say they appreciate the way the client software complements their existing smartphone usage patterns, instead of requiring employees to modify their preferences. Smart Mobile Client automatically routes their calls through the company’s communications server based on the customer’s least-cost-routing settings. The client software supports Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Nokia Symbian platforms, as well as Apple iPhone and Android through the Web client.
With Release 2.2 rolled out across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Smart Mobile Client is now available for iS3000 and SIP@Net communication servers. With Release 3.0, expected early 2011, Smart Mobile Client will become available for NEC’s UNIVERGE SV8300 and SV8500 platforms.
