CounterPath Introduces New Generation of Bria Softphone Clients with Design Updates and Advanced Enterprise Communications Features
Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 22, 2014
CounterPath Corporation (NASDAQ: CPAH) (TSX: CCV), a leading developer of award-winning desktop, tablet and mobile VoIP software products and solutions, today announced a new redesign and unification of its Graphical User Interface (GUI) across its entire suite of Bria desktop, tablet and mobile softphone clients, dramatically improving the look, feel and ease-of-use of its VoIP communications technology. The company also announced availability dates for new communications features for the Bria client including enterprise screen sharing, Outlook plug-in, and Voice Quality Monitoring (VQM)
Bria Product Line Updates
The next versions of the entire suite of Bria softphone clients, i.e. Bria 4.0 for desktop, Bria iPhone/iPad/Android Editions 3.0 and Bria BlackBerry Edition 1.3, will include the following features:
- Bria Graphical User Interface (GUI) Design Update – The CounterPath Bria softphone has received several accolades for its intuitive design, full feature set and sophisticated audio technology and security settings. It is available on all the major platforms –Windows and Mac for Bria desktop, iOS and Android for tablet, and iOS, Android and BlackBerry for smartphones – and now, Bria users will enjoy the same voice and video calling and messaging experience regardless of which platform they are using.
- Voice Quality Monitoring (VQM) – VQM enables customers to proactively detect and pinpoint voice quality issues in the network, as well as to accurately measure historical Voice Quality trends. For every VoIP call, CounterPath’s softphone clients generate real time VoIP quality data based on Mean Opinion Score (MOS) and immediately push this information to the Client Configuration Server (CCS) Voice Quality Monitoring dashboard.
“At CounterPath our goal has always been to create the best user experience possible,” said Robert Brown, VP Marketing and Communications, CounterPath. “The unification of Bria’s colors, icons and features means that when people start their voice call or messaging conversation on their desktop Bria and transfer it over to their mobile device, it will be completely seamless not only technology-wise, as it always has been, but also visually. We are seeing more and more uptake of our solution that encompasses both desktop and mobile devices so it makes sense to unify the GUI design and make the experience as easy and enjoyable as possible for both personal power users and business users.”
New Bria 4.0 Desktop Features for Enterprise Users
In addition to its redesigned user interface and VQM, the new Bria 4.0 for desktop will also include the following new enterprise features:
- Screen Sharing Capabilities – With one simple click, Bria 4.0 Windows desktop users will be able to initiate a seamless, hosted screen sharing session with up to 100 contacts. Participants are automatically presented with a “join” button and do not require any additional software downloads; the screen sharing session can be viewed from any device with a browser, including desktops, tablets and smart phones. Screen sharing is an optional add-on purchase.
- Bria Add-in for Outlook – Business users who live in their Outlook application will be able to open an email and immediately see if the contacts included are busy or available, initiate a call or send an instant message using Bria, all directly from their Outlook window. The Bria Add-in for Outlook is an optional add-on purchase.
“CounterPath has built best of breed products for over a decade and we have now leveraged our leadership position to build the next generation products based on direct customer input,” said Todd Carothers, EVP Marketing and Products, CounterPath. “We put the customer at the center of everything we do and the latest Bria products exemplify this. With this updated product suite we are positioned to meet the increasing demand for operator and enterprise Over-The-Top (OTT) solutions that extend the phone number to new devices and expand services reach in new ways.”
Carothers continues, “Research firm Gartner recently predicted1 that OTT VoIP will happen over the next 0-2 years, driven by the explosion of smartphones and tablets. In addition to recognized operator-based opportunities, Gartner’s research also highlights that the enterprise is ripe to leverage an all-packet based infrastructure leveraging SIP to enable communications across multiple devices. CounterPath’s Bria product line meets this need and by increasing the breadth of enterprise-specific features with the solution, we expect its market relevance to increase accordingly.”
Bria iPhone and iPad Editions 3.0, featuring the new user interface and VQM, are currently available for download in the iTunes store.
Bria Android Edition 3.0 and Bria BlackBerry Edition 1.3, featuring the new user interface and VQM, will be available early 2014 from the Google Play and BlackBerry World app stores respectively.
The new Bria 4.0 for Windows and Mac, featuring the new user interface and VQM, will be available in 2014 on the CounterPath store. Screen sharing and the Bria Add-in for Outlook will be optional add-on purchases.
