CounterPath to Enter the Mobile Device Management (MDM) Market
Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 22, 2014
CounterPath Corporation (NASDAQ: CPAH) (TSX: CCV), a leading developer of award-winning desktop, tablet and mobile VoIP software products and solutions, today announced that the company is widening its enterprise distribution channel by enabling its softphone client applications to support Mobile Device Management (MDM) services through its plans to make the CounterPath Bria softphone client app ready to download from any of the major MDM vendors’ online app stores.
“MDM services are a hot topic”, according to Gartner, “as companies are looking to scale or offload their support for mobile devices. MDM services help enterprises manage non-company-owned devices and scale their use on a global basis.” Further, with reports like the study conducted by MDM vendor AirWatch suggesting that more than 40% of workers are using their personal devices to access business applications and resources, secure, scalable and easily provisioned solutions and controlled distribution have evolved from nice-to-haves to necessities for enterprises.
CounterPath views MDM as an essential evolution of BYOD within an enterprise and recognizes that enterprises require control over distribution, simple configuration, security, and analytics. CounterPath supports each of these elements today with its Bria client application, and in the case of analytics, enables operator and enterprise IT departments to quickly diagnose and assess end user needs and problems. In addition, CounterPath offers a premise-based and cloud-based provisioning system that ties in directly with the requirements of an MDM solution by seamlessly linking with generic (retail) and customised (branded) versions of Bria clients across Apple iOS, Google Android and BlackBerry platforms.
CounterPath has targeted five of the leading MDM applications with which to integrate Bria and plans to offer two MDM solutions within the first half of 2014 with the other three to follow.
“MDM is a hot topic with our enterprise customers and prospects,” said Todd Carothers, EVP Marketing and Products, CounterPath. “With BYOD and the inherent security concerns with the plethora of devices and operating systems, IT needs a reliable and safe way to manage their applications in the cloud. MDM is a critical component in doing this and ties nicely to Bria’s security features that are relied upon every day by our customers.”
